Story Time

Mondays are usually manic...or at least have the potential to be...I mean, there is a song about the craziness of Mondays so you know something has it out for you on this fateful day.
But, let's get to the point here. Nothing can be as mortifying as being hit by a car...but this act is even INCREASINGLY terrible if it occurs on a Monday.

December 6, 2010 I watched a teen-aged boy get hit by a car. Thankfully he was not hurt at all...and incidentally his episode was one of the most amazing things I have EVER seen in my life. I have very roughly sketched the scene for you:

Meet figure 1a. He is a 14-16 year old male who is rocking black, curly hair and specs. He has a hoodie on, both hands concealed warmly in his pocket and some pants. Stereotypically, he was the black-haired version of Napoleon Dynomite.

Meet figure 1 b. This is a classy old woman car. Champagne colored...probably a Lincoln...with a mid to late aged woman behind the wheel. She wants to make a right hand turn to beat the cars who just got their green light...she forgets to look for PEOPLE and nails Napoleon who has barely taken three steps.

Napoleon's leg fly up, his head doesn't touch the car, and he manages to keep his hands in that hoodie pocket of his.

Napoleon LANDS ON TWO FEET and doesn't even acknowledge the woman who almost killed him. The woman is flipping out but decides to just pull over and let him continue walking.

Hands still deep in that sturdy pocket of his, he walks away...no limp, no nothing....NEVER looking back.

It was like getting hit by a car was apart of his everyday routine. I had the giggles the rest of the day...and still do.

On a totally unrelated more "standard" blog note, I have a sweet little DIY project coming up and some pillow case sets almost ready for photography! So stay tuned folks!!

And remember, when crossing the street look BOTH ways and make sure those right-hand-turner's see you!!

(Napoleon, you're awesome, you're like super man! I hope you're truly are okay :)

Stranger Day, No.3

Everyone should have a bucket list.
Why?
Well, simple...It keeps your goals in order and also makes some of the mundane moments in life EXTRAORDINARY. There's no real order or guide to what your list will or could look like...it could be very elaborate and flashy with things like, running naked through central park or sexing it up in outer space. It could also be very simple like, being a mom or running a marathon...regardless of the act, the point is that it's a great way to reflect on what matters to you as a person and organize a nice list of things you want to accomplish in your life.

This ties into this weeks episode of Stranger Days...folks, meet the Dragonfruit!

Now, you may or may not have seen one of these in real life. To me this is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen with my own two eyes and felt with my own two paws. It also just so happens to be on my personal bucket list. The other day, Jb and I were walking through a local asian market pretending we were in another country (I don't know about him, but I always pretend I am in another country when I walk in there...makes it even COOOLER). It was very busy but we made our way through most of the aisles and then into the produce department. I was seeking lemongrass (mostly to see what it looks like) but to no avail and in my search nearly fell into a crate full of pink. Turning my sight to my would-have-been trip hazard, my eyes filled up with the glorious view of a bright fuchsia hue clad with green tips. The sky opened up and a light shined on the huge, heaping crate of real, live dragonfruit! My jaw hit the floor and both hands dove into the display feeling and gently squeezing and then smelling. Jb looked at me like I was crazy and I explained that I had wanted to see a real dragonfruit for a very long time. I picked one out and that was that.

because I have had dragonfruit dried, I was convinced that it was going to be red on the inside. I was wrong. Ha.

I scooped it out with a spoon, chopped it up, and put it back into the skin.

like thus.

and then posed for my final picture with my bucket-list companion!

The texture is really great. A little firmer than a kiwi, refreshing like a cucumber, and slightly sweet like a grape but not too sweet. I really really liked it and can't even begin to tell you how awesome this little fruit is. It made my weekend! Until next time....

Stranger Day, No.2

Here we are again, friends, Sunday night...for most of you, this means another five days to get through before freedom rings again...but I'll tell ya what. You've been so good, so pleasant that you can have Thursday off.
Just make sure you stuff your face and give grandma a hug for me.

This week's episode of Stranger Day consists of etsy finds that caught my eye. Some are straight up ODD and some are just eccentric and fun (namely that felted freaking rug!! <3)

If I don't update before, I hope you all have a very, very happy thanksgiving.
love, Jonnie.

Stranger Day, No.1

I'll be honest
, today came too quickly. The week flew by and I feel like it was only yesterday I was figuring out some sort of consistency for a Sunday blog post. Well folks, here's my honesty...this is a half assed post! The best thing I could procure is this kind of adorable picture...and a story from Saturday night.

A few friends and I went to check out this local band (Trouble in the Wind) at a local bar. The place was cool... there was an exciting buzz in the air and just when I thought the night couldn't get better this freaking rockin' old dude walks by me with a button up shakespeare-like v-neck and a blonde head of hair styled into the prettiest poofiest mullet I have ever seen (yes, poofier than my mother's). I was so elated to see such a man still existed but then quickly got caught up in good company. The band came on (and kicked butt!!) and during their break a DJ mixed some great music that just tranced me into dancing. At one point I noticed my lovely mullet man dancing too...and sort of trying to dance with some ladies. Being the brave (and sometimes naive) lady that I am I shot my friends a huge grin and said, "I AM GOING TO DANCE WITH THAT MAN!!" So off I went, thinking nothing of it until we started dancing and I remembered, "I move much better solo because I totally SUCK at following" but I did my best to follow and when I had enough I twirled away.
But...the man could not get enough of me...as my friend put it, "Good job gettin' a creeper."
He came back to dance more and tried to ya know...go further with his dirty little hands.
All I could think was, "Sheesh...I can be such an idiot sometimes."
Needless to say...I stopped dancing whenever he entered into our vicinity but otherwise had a really awesome night!

It was a really great weekend. It feels like the first real weekend I have had in loooooong time.
Sure I put off a paper but a girl's gotta live a little bit!!

PS: Today an awesome lady became WINDEYMOOR's third official customer!!! Much thanks to you, Amanda!!
